During an event held in Madrid as part of YouTube’s Global Convention, professionals from the music industry—spanning both digital platforms and independent record labels—came together for a working session. The meeting brought together individuals involved in the editing, distribution, and management of musical content.
Participants included Dan Chalmers, Head of Music for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at YouTube; Federico Scialabba, President of Music Brokers; Tasha Taylor, Director of Strategic Partnerships for EMEA at YouTube; Paul Smith, who oversees YouTube Music operations in the Asia-Pacific region; and Charlie Sánchez, founder of Metales Preciosos Música & Discos. Although each professional operates at a different scale, their roles are complementary. Catalog management, licensing implementation, and publishing tools administration are interconnected processes that require constant interoperability. Catalog-related decisions demand technical infrastructure, just as platforms rely on well-managed content to function properly.
The meeting took place within the convention’s internal agenda and was not followed by any public announcements. However, the participation of these professionals highlights a shared responsibility framework, rooted in hands-on experience managing music in global digital environments.
